Canadian Foreign Policy's New Direction

Here's an interesting diversion from the usual dreary foreign debates you see in the US news for all you avowed internationalists. If the USA is not going to take a role that leads the world (instead of subdue and insult it), then it really opens the door for other countries to do so.

There seem to be other forces acting for good in this world besides the usual English oriented players. With American exceptionalism at an end, there are other players out there. La Francophonie is an old grouping of French states that, when pulling together, actually have some leverage. But it is entertaining to see the first Anglophone (primarily English speaking) Prime Minister of Canada in years try to leverage a French based institution

Will something good come of this? Perhaps, if Paul Martin can articulate a vision strong and practical enough to energize the other leaders into resolute and committed action. This could primness the first and most drastic reform of the UN in its 49 years history.
